Papago Park

This is Papago Park, in Phoenix, close to my apartment on McDowell.

At least, THEY call it Papago Park. WE call it Papago for a Long Run,
and Mamago Park and go to the zoo with Silas :)

That big pile of orange they call a "butte". I think it's a beaut, too,
but we call it "Dinosaur Poop". Of course, it's fossilized dinosaur poop.
Otherwise, Phoenix would smell really, really bad. Wait a minute - no, that's me.

Papago Park is a lovely park in the middle of town - while the zoo is there, there
are also miles of trails, and stocked lakes for fishing. And lots of saguaros.

It's the sort of place that one feels must be doomed, when the developers get a
chance at it. Of course, the folks who buy the houses that the developers will
build will be glad to get them, but everybody else will be miffed. As we used to
say in Park City, the difference between a developer and an ecofreak is that the
ecofreak built his house last year :)

There are big piles of dino poop all over Papago Park - I would have named
it Dinogopoop Park, but then I wasn't here when they built it, so I didn't get
to vote. And wouldn't have, anyway. Besides, that option probably wasn't on the
referendum. (What a word - referendum. Referendum. Say it over and over.)

There are a lot of parks in Phoenix - and it's a good thing, because the amount
of paving in this town helps to act as a heat sink, keeping it warm late into
the night. The forecast highs for this week are 106, 108, 108, 107, 106, 105, 108,
so anything that holds heat is not welcome, thank you very much. At night, it is
still very warm - it's not unpleasant, unless you want to do heavy exercise,
like walking or breathing. Then the heat becomes a veritable burden upon one's
soul. One starts to feel a lot like fossilized dinosaur poop.
